The Margarita Man
The first margarita machine came from Dallas, the Texas-based 7/11 store. The idea of the machine came from the humble Slurpee machines. The man who invented the Margarita blender never even finished school. He dropped out of school.
His name was Mariano Martinez. He opened his first restaurant in 1971. His restaurant was more of a Mexican restaurant, serving Mexican food and he was serving his famous drink, the Margarita.
Where It All Started
He starts realizing that his staff is using and breaking more blenders than he could buy them. The customers at his restaurant were frustrating with the fact that the drinks were inconsistent and they didn’t taste the same way as the previous drink. His staff was complaining that the drink was too difficult to make and takes too much time.
He started to became frustrated and walked into a 7/11 shop in Dallas, and he got his idea of the Margarita machine from the Humble Slurpee machine in the shop. The Humble Slurpee machine could make frozen drinks fast, and it could serve a lot of customers faster than it would be possible to surf in his restaurant.
His first prototype was an ice cream machine that he took and modified to make his first Margarita blender. He used this blender in his restaurant, Mariano’s Hacienda, and used it for about thirty-four years. After he invented his machine, the customers were satisfied with the tasty drink every time and the staff of the restaurant was happier that the drink didn’t take that long to make anymore.
Where Is The First Machine Now?
Today, the first machine that Mariano Martinez invented is now exhibited at the Smithsonian museum. The Smithsonian museum announced in a press release that they have the first-ever Margarita machine that was built by Mariano Martinez on May 11, 1971.
Because of Mariano Martinez, we can make easy and fast margaritas that are always tasty. He was desperate looking for an answer to serve Margaritas at his restaurant fast, and because of desperation, he invented the Margarita machine, allowing us to make them ourselves.
